Mayer Motorsports Driver Laura Hayes Clinches Spot in Red Bull Driver Search Run Offs. 14-year-old bests field of 23 drivers at local indoor karting qualifier LIVERMORE, Calif., June 14, 2004 Mayer Motorsports Inc., (MMI) a leading northern California karting shop, announced today that 14-year-old Team MMI driver Laura Hayes won the Red Bull Driver Search Qualifier at Race Place Motorsports (RPM) in Sacramento, CA on June 8th, securing her spot in the next round of competition that seeks to find the next American Formula One driver. Hayes will join the other qualifiers in the next round of competition to be held at a yet to be named outdoor karting facility in August. Hayes managed to drive beyond her years and leverage her outdoor karting experience in Junior 80 Shifter and Junior Superbox to come away with the cumulative fastest lap time to win the competition, which included some of the best young drivers in Northern California. Hayes joins only a handful of other girls who will also move onto the Red Bull Run Offs, which will take place at 2 outdoor kart tracks, one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast, in July and August. Each event will cater to approximately 150 qualifiers and will take place over a 3-day period. The events will be organized by Red Bull and the qualifiers will compete in equal karts provided by Rotax. Up to 10 drivers will be selected from the Run Offs and invited to attend the Semi Final in September.
