Mayer Motorsports drivers, Killion
and Kritikos: Three Races - Three Wins!
David Killion - 2 WINS - Formula 80 Masters On Saturday, Jason diligently qualified on pole for the first of the weekends events, putting him right up front where he annihilated the field during the first heat. The second heat was quite dominating also until the throttle cable broke with three laps to go. Jason continued to drive the kart with his hand on the carburetor and stayed up front until the last lap where a bump knocked his hand down and he couldn't get it in place before getting passed. This relegated him to a third starting spot for the main event, but it didn't phase him at all - within 3 laps he was in front of the field to walk away with 1st place honors and $100 cash payout. David also qualified on pole for the Saturday event, but was unable to hold off last years champion, Luigi Vincezi, on the last lap of the first heat where he snuck by and relegated David to a second starting spot for the second heat. David nailed the start in the second heat to regain the lead and pulled the for the rest of the 8 lap heat race. In the main event the Luigi snuck up along side David on the start and out-ran him into turn one, David was much faster but realized the 12 lap main event was plenty of time to regain the position. Frustration ran high at three laps into the race because running behind Luigi was costing David about 3 tenths per lap. David was just about ready to make a move when Luigi slowed on the track - later to find out it was a broken throttle cable. Once David was around the disabled kart he pulled the field and brought home his second win of the season. On Sunday, David missed getting on the pole by only five one-hundredths of a second, but the first heat fixed that with flawless start catapulting him by the pole sitter into the lead position before entering turn one. The rest of the day was simple, he won every heat and had nearly gapped the field by the distance of the front straight when the checkered flag flew. A perfect weekend for Killion; this moved him even further into the championship points lead with four races remaining. Presently David is sitting with three wins and two second place finishes at Kinsmen this year. "We can win this [championship] if we stay focused an hit our marks. The motor problems after the first race this year really took a toll on the team, we began having our doubts - this pair of wins was really needed.", said David, "We need to make these last four races count, there is really no reason we can't get four more wins, but the truth is - all we need to do is finish up front consistently." Michael Morton flew the Team MMI colors on Sunday in the National Cup class in only his fourth ever kart race. Michael made all the right moves and took the #8 Birel Parilla kart (which was suffering badly for top end power) to a trophy scoring, fourth place finish. This is testimony to Mayer Motorsports and their ability to take rookie drivers and get them to the front with exceptional kart setup and superb driver training. Keith Smith and Carol Brown did some great driving in the Rotax Max Challenge (news story coming soon) finishing 2nd and 4th respectively. About Mayer Motorsports |
