Starting off on Saturday was the always competitive
Nor Cal National Cup. Chris Scribner running under the MMI banner in
06 in his Scribner Plastics Margay had his work cut out for him, starting
12th after a dnf in the prefinal. Chris worked his way right to the
front and ran as high as 4th place, however Chris was sidelined after
contact from another kart left him with a broken beadlock and a flat
tire.Always fast, Jim Ferguson in his MMI Rocket / Powerworks ride,
using Saturday as a warm-up for the Masters 125 on Sunday, made a good
run through the 22 kart field with a 9th place finish.
Formula 80 Limited saw a 1-2 finish for MMI as Anthony Valerio in last
years Energy/Powerworks ride (new Tony kart on the way) and Trevor Schmid
in his Rocket / Swedetech mount, as they both ran down the leader and
on the white flag lap Anthony made a diving pass on the leader (Robert
Towne) in the hairpin and from there it was a three kart race to the
finish with Anthony coming out on top Trevor 2nd and Robert 3rd.MMI
driver Merick Miller made his 80 Ltd. IKF début in his Rocket
/ Swedetech ride made improvements all day having a good run in the
18 kart field, Look for Merick to run up front in the next round at
Dixon it's one of his home tracks along with Davis. On a side note Trevor
would like to thank Reine from Swedetech for all the help this weekend.
Sunday morning looked good for Jim Ferguson in the Nor Cal National
Cup Masters, but problems with his carb in qualifying and the prefinal
left Jim with a mid pack starting spot on the grid but came through
with a strong forth place finish the end. Jim will also have his new
Tony kart at the next round in Dixon where he plans to make up some
ground and run up front all day.
The 100cc National Cup class was another one to watch for Team MMI as
there were twice the entries as last years class, in part due to the
efforts of Team MMI driver Carol Brown who has been promoting this class
as a stepping stone to the premiere 125 Nor Cal class.Unfortunately
for Carol she stuck her engine in morning practice and thought her day
was done, but Joe from Powerworks came through and went to the shop
to repair her cylinder and we had her running by the prefinal. But down
on power (had to use old piston) and stamina (racing with a bad cold)
Carol was forced to pull in early, not happy about that look for Carol
to do well at Dixon she runs strong there.Kevin Knight on the other
hand ran up front all day in his new Mike Wilson kart qualifying 4th
in the 10 kart field and ran as high as 3rd in the final losing a spot
to Mike Botelho in the closing laps. With his engine at Powerworks right
now Kevin will be there for the win at Dixon.
After Saturdays dismal performance, Chris Scribner totally redeemed
himself with a win in Super Sportsman Lt, in what was one of the best
races of the weekend. The top ten karts all were within a half second
of each other in qualifying. Chris started the final from the 5th spot
on the grid and worked his way to the front and held the lead through
the middle of the race until the last lap when Mike Botelho Jr made
a pass entering the sweeper for the lead, not to be out done Chris returned
the favor entering the hairpin and beat Mike to the stripe for the win.
MMI would like to thank the Atwater Kart Club and The Nor Cal staff
for a great weekend and is looking forward to the next round in Dixon
